Ministry to Homebound

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to the Homebound

Initiating a Communion Call

Communion Calls are initiated by parishioners who are encouraged to contact Deacon Paul Norman at or at the Rectory (718) 429-5438 as they become aware of needs. Once the basic information regarding the circumstances of the call is supplied, the necessary arrangements are made to assign a minister. Adherence to this process is essential for the maintenance of Parish records regarding the homebound that are visited. Our Lady of Hope Ministers of Communion are commissioned to bring Communion only to the homebound within the Parish boundaries.

About the Ministry

The Ministry of the Homebound reflects the inclusive nature of the faith community of Our Lady of Hope Parish. Through their services, Ministers of Holy Communion make it possible for the homebound who are unable to attend Sunday Mass to share in the great mystery of our faith – the “Real Presence” of Christ in the Eucharist.

Presently, twelve Ministers of Holy Communion are participating in this ministry, visiting parishioners who are homebound either on a long or short term basis. By making it possible for the homebound to receive the Body and Blood of Christ, consecrated at Mass, and through time spent praying with and listening to them, ministers come to reflect the presence of Christ. Arrangements can also be made for reception of the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, if desired.

The Ministry of the Homebound provides an opportunity to foster the unity of God’s people as the homebound come to sense the healing power of Christ through their experience and the ministers sense the enrichment of their lives through their experience.
